January 22, 2003 - High Court Declines Pic Suit
NEW ORLEANS --- The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday said it won't consider a lawsuit blaming violent movies and other entertainment for a school shooting in Kentucky in 1997. The $33 million lawsuit was brought against Hollywood by families of the three girls killed in the 1997 shooting. Five students were also wounded. Families said 14-year-old Michael Carneal shot the girls as a result of watching violent entertainment. Last year, a federal appeals court threw out the lawsuit, saying entertainment products are protected by the First Amendment.
